MD aspirant duped of 60 lakh with college seat promise

PUNE: Three youths have been booked for duping an MBBS graduate of Rs 60 lakh by promising him a seat in a master's course at a Pimpri-based private medical college.

The MBBS graduate, Piyush Singh (28), who hails from Uttar Pradesh, has lodged a complaint with the Pimpri police on Saturday.

The three accused were friends with Singh.

Singh told police that one of the suspects was his senior in college in Pimpri. After obtaining an MBBS degree, Singh wanted to pursue MS orthopaedic course in the same college. The three accused told Singh that they had good "connections" in the administration of the private college and could secure a seat for him.

Since January 2015, the youths met Singh in different hotels in Pimpri and Chinchwad several times to discuss the admissions process. Singh paid them Rs 60 lakh. But the accused failed to secure a seat for him.

Realising that he had been cheated, Singh lodged a police complaint.

On June 4, a Mumbai-based MBBS doctor, Shayna Patel (26), had approached the Bund Garden police against her two friends, who pursued MBBS course with her, but duped her of Rs 52 lakh by promising a seat in the same private college in Pimpri.

Patel's two friends were also her classmates during the MBBS course.
