Clear NEXT for title of Doctor, MCI recommends Exit Tests for Medical Students
The Medical students will need to clear National Exit Test (NEXT) in order to be recognized as Doctor. According to the Indian Medical Council (Amendment) Bill 2016, unveiled by the Union health ministry, the medical aspirants will need to clear the National Exit Test (NEXT). The National Exit Test exam is being conducted to create a level-playing field in medical education and is increasingly privatized. The National Exit Test is being made to ensure the quality of teachers. The aspirants will need to clear the substitute three tests, which includes NEET for postgraduate admissions, recruitment for central health services and the foreign graduate medical examination.
The National Exit Test will be an outcome-based test. As per the latest changes aspirants are required to note that the results of how students from individual colleges have performed in NEXT will be made public. The college has stated that over 90% students cleared the test, which will automatically act as an indicator. According to a report, Dr P Shingare, who heads the state’s department of medical education and research, The Next exam will get about a standardization. Earlier with suggestions from the Medical Council of India (MCI) and the parliamentary standing committee on health and family welfare, the Centre was planning an exit examination for MBBS students passing out of government and private medical colleges. The MCI had recommended to the ministry in July 2015 that there should be an exit examination for MBBS students to ensure quality. This move is aimed to bring clear the disparities.
