Counselling for MBBS completed

DMK, allies stage protest over NEET issue

The Centralised Admission Committee (Centac) on Saturday completed the second round of counselling for the MBBS management quota seats.
In a press statement, Centac official said that the first phase was completed on Friday and 93 seats were allotted to various colleges based on merit, eligibility, choice and availability.
The students who have been allotted seats should join the colleges concerned by August 25. The counselling for candidates belonging to Puducherry and claiming seats under the linguistic minority (Telugu as mother tongue) and religious minority (Christians) quota with merit rank from 1 to 1375 was held from 9 a.m. For candidates under the All India quota, including Puducherry candidates (management quota), the counselling was held from 10 a.m.
Exemption sought
Meanwhile, leaders of the CPI, the CPI(M), the VCK, the DMK, and the Dravidar Kazhagam urged the Centac officials to stop counselling till Puducherry is exempted from the National Entrance Eligibility Test (NEET). They staged a protest here on Friday.
V. Perumal of the CPI(M) said that during an all-party meeting, the government had promised to get exemption from the NEET-based medical admissions for Puducherry.
“They should at least take steps to ensure that seats are reserved for Puducherry students,” he said.
