17 engineering colleges to be closed in Tamil Nadu

These colleges have spread out across Tamil Nadu. The last date for applying for the affiliation ended on January 21. 



12 engineering and MBA colleges applied for closure and five colleges did not apply for the affiliation with the Anna University for conducting courses in the next academic year, officials from Anna University said.

CHENNAI: Unable to sustain with a poor enrolment of students in engineering courses for last few years as many as 17 engineering and MBA colleges in the state will be closed down from next academic year (2018-19).

Of the over 600 engineering, architecture, MBA and MCA colleges in Tamil Nadu, 12 engineering and MBA colleges applied for closure and five colleges did not apply for the affiliation with the Anna University for conducting courses in the next academic year, officials from Anna University said.

These colleges have spread out across Tamil Nadu. The last date for applying for the affiliation ended on January 21.

“This year many colleges have applied to surrender seats in branches like civil, mechanical and information technology. Some colleges even want to surrender all of their seats due to poor enrolment,” officials added.

They further said the total number of colleges opted for reducing their intake will only be available in the first week of February after All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) closes the applications for the same on February 1.
