UGC scholarships via DBT from April

Tribune News Service

New Delhi, February 11

The University Grants Commission will begin disbursement of scholarships and fellowships through Direct Benefit Transfer mode from April 1, 2016. In a letter to all universities, the UGC has asked them to complete digitisation of records of beneficiaries of scholarships and fellowships.

The UGC had written to all universities in December informing them that fellowships and scholarships were being brought under the Direct Benefit Transfer and Public Finance Management System (PFMS).

Interface meetings for verification of data, reconciliation of accounts and utilisation certificates are being conducted.

Universities have been asked to provide information of scholarships to UGC to ensure that payments from April onwards can be made through DBT mode.

Payments of scholarship amounts up to March 2016 are to be made from grants already released to the universities or from their own sources which will then be reimbursed by UGC, said a letter from the UGC addressed to all universities.
