Chennai: In a big jolt to the ruling AIADMK on the eve of former chief minister J Jayalalithaa’s 70th birth anniversary, party MLA A Prabhu on Friday met rival camp leader T T V Dhinakaran to extend his support. The Kallakurichi legislator is the 21st MLA to openly support Dhinakaran after the EPS-led ruling dispensation removed V K Sasikala and Dhinakaran from party posts last April, and five months after 18 MLAs teamed up with the rebel leader.

Prabhu said the outcome of the R K Nagar bypoll proved that Dhinakaran was the popular choice to lead the party. He said he was unable to serve the people in his constituency as partymen themselves proved stumbling blocks. “One of the 18 MLAs supporting TTV will become CM soon and there are many (in the ruling camp) waiting to switch sides,” the MLA told reporters after meeting TTV at his Adyar residence in Chennai.

Prabhu said his demands, including turning Kallakurichi as district headquarters, had not been met by the ruling dispensation, and his joining the TTV camp would help get things done for his constituency.
