Southern Railway vigilance dept arrests 15 ticket touts

CHENNAI: The vigilance department of the Southern Railway conducted 452 checks on ticket touts and unauthorised vendors in the one month - from September 21 to October 20 -- when many people travelled in trains due to Pooja and Diwali holidays. The vigilance department collected a total of Rs 86,052 as fine from them.
The vigilance department conducted many checks against touts and unauthorised travel agents in reservation offices to protect the interest of genuine passengers.

The special drive was launched to curb malpractices in mass contact areas.
Such checks will be further intensified in the coming months to protect the interests of genuine passengers, the Southern Railway said in a statement.
