Maharashtra University of Health Sciences declares list of affiliated colleges

NASHIK: Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS) declared an important list of affiliated colleges, (excluding the deemed universities) who have been granted continuation/extension of affiliation for the academic year 2016-17 on Wednesday.

Aspirants trying for admissions in private medical colleges in the state should go through the list before confirmation of admission in respective institutions.

MUHS public relation officer Dr Swapnil Torne said, "This list has been published at the university's website which shows the availability of courses and seats in medical colleges across the state. The Medical Council of India (MCI) changes accreditation and number of seats available in colleges every year after reviewing the infrastructure of respective colleges. But, there are many colleges who continue admitting students without informing them about the latest change made by MCI. This creates a problem for students who get admission at college level, but are prohibited to appear for examination on MUHS level. To avoid this, the university has declared the colleges, and the available number of seats."

Last year, there were cases across the state where students were admitted in MBBS, Dental Ayurvedic, Homoeopathy and Unani courses. As their seats were not approved by MCI, the MUHS could not conduct their exams. This invited anger among the students who held MUHS responsible.

"To avoid confusion, students still seeking admission, especially for nursing and Ayurvedic colleges across the state should go through the list and confirm whether the seats are authorized or not," Torne added.

The updated list has has 38 MBBS colleges, 28 dental colleges, 35 Ayurvedic and Unani colleges, six homoeopathy colleges, 23 physiotherapy colleges, 21 BPMT Colleges, six colleges of Optometry and Ophthalmic Sciences, one college of para medical course and 56 nursing colleges.

Currently, the admissions to MBBS/BDS All India Return Seats for the 2016-2017 are under way through Personal Counseling Round. Directorate of Medical Education and Research has announced that selected Candidates should report to the College with original documents and pay the Fees upto October 19.
