Ola Share launched in Coimbatore

COIMBATORE: Ola, a leading transportation platform in the country, announced the launch of Ola Share on its platform in Coimbatore. "Ola Share enables economical fares and reduced congestion since a ride can now be shared by up to three people at any point in time. Customers benefit from up to 50% discount on cabfares," Ola said.

Ola Share appears on the Ola app as a separate category. On sharing the drop location, the Ola app uses advanced algorithms to match users, looking for a cab on the same route, in real time. When additional users are identified en-route, the driver's device gets an alert with navigation to their pick-up location within minutes, to join the ride. Up to three people can share a cab together in Ola Share.

With Ola Share, colleagues from a workplace or friends from a college can come together to share rides among themselves. A user can join multiple groups or simply choose to share a ride with anyone.

"With better utilisation of vehicles on the road, many more cars can be taken off the road every single day. This will go a long way in making our cities cleaner and greener and reducing road congestion. All of Ola's security features like Track Your Ride, Share Ride Details, SOS, Emergency Contacts, 24x7 Customer Support and Number Masking are available for users on Ola Share," it said.

"Coimbatore is a key market for Ola as the city is one of the best emerging cities in the country and is witnessing rapid growth due to industrialisation. Hence, there is a compelling need for shared mobility in the city to enable a sustainable transport solution," Ola said.

"Ola Share has been specially designed to enable citizens to ride together and contribute to reduction in pollution and congestion in their city. In the last 8-10 months, Ola Share has been able to save upwards of 48 lakh kilograms of carbon emissions along with over 20 lakh litres of fuel," it claimed. Launched in October 2015, Ola Share is now available in 15 cities.
