Governor-chancellor Vidyasagar Rao on Friday conducted interviews of prospective candidates for appointing vice-chancellors for University of Madras, Madurai Kamarajar University and Anna University .An official in Raj Bhavan said the interviews were conducted for five hours in the morning and evening. Higher education minister K P Anbalagan was part of the interview process, the official said. There was no official announcement on VCs selected at the time of going to press.
The three search panels constituted by the government had submitted three names each to the governor last week. Sources said a former Madras University VC and an ex-registrar of MKU were among nine candidates who appeared for interviews.
The universities have been without a head for more than a year, with MKU being without a VC for two years. Chief secretary Girija Vaidyanathan on Thursday urged Rao to speed up the selections.
