After judges, IPS officer tries to change DOB to extend service

CHENNAI: Age-correction by judges and top government officers to extend their service beyond the original retirement date seems to have blossomed into an art in Tamil Nadu.

After TOI last week published reports, based on documents in its possession, showing how two serving district judges are about to become judges of Madras high court on the basis of 'rectified' dates of birth, another similar case of a senior IPS officer who is on the verge of retirement has come to light.
The 1956-born IPS officer and additional director-general of police (state traffic planning cell), S Rajendran, has obtained a 'rectified' certificate from a tahsildar, and has been trying to incorporate it in his SSLC book (school leaving certificate), so that he would get an additional service period of three years. His 'new' date of birth (DOB) is January 15, 1959.
