The New Indian Express

COIMBATORE: Plus Two students who aspire to join engineering course may not get details like academic performance and pass percentage of engineering colleges, which will enable them to make an informed choice in the Tamil Nadu Engineering Admission, this year.

Last year, based on a court order, Anna University released the academic performance and pass percentage of engineering colleges affiliated to it on its website. This helped engineering course aspirants to make an informed choice of college and course, while attending the Tamil Nadu Engineering Admission.

The court also directed the university to publish a separate list of engineering colleges with similar or identical names along with the code number apart from the information about the colleges on its website. The court issued the order while acting on a petition seeking a direction to government and Anna University to publish the year-wise pass percentage in affiliated colleges, along with the rank list based on academic performance, well prior to the schedule of engineering admission counselling every year under single window system.

When contacted, Anna University Vice Chancellor M Rajaram said, "The court order on releasing academic performance and pass percentage of students of engineering colleges was only for the last year. The single window counselling will commence only in June. We will only be acting on this issue, based on the direction from State government or All India Council for Technical Education."

Condemning this, former Vice Chancellor of Anna University E Balagurusamy said, "It looks like, due to the influence of the private college managements, the university is not interested in releasing these information."

"The university should work for the benefit of the students and not in favour of private college managements. The university has all rights to release the rank list, academic performance and pass percentage of private engineering colleges and there is no need for them to get approval from State government or AICTE for this," he added.
