63 central university of Tamil Nadu students booked

TRICHY: Police in Nannilam on Tuesday booked cases against 63 students of the central university of Tamil Nadu (CUTN) at Tiruvarur under three sections for burning effigies of prime minister Narendra Modi and home minister Amit Shah.
Over 200 students had participated in a protest on the university campus on Monday against the citizenship amendment act (CAA) following which the university was closed for an indefinite period. The students took out a procession carrying the effigies and placards on the campus and raising slogans against CAA in Hindi. They demanded repealing of CAA and action against the police who attacked the protesting students in Jamia Millia Islamia University in Delhi. Nannilam police booked cases under sections 285, 143 and 341 of the IPC against the students for burning effigies as part of the protest.
