Community certificates for BC, MBC in 48 hours

CHENNAI: The State government on Monday declared a new hassle-free scheme to provide community certificate to applicants, particularly students, within 48 hours of submitting applications online.
Minister R B Udhayakumar told the Assembly that students belonging to BC and MBC could avail themselves of the facility, provided one of their family members has the certificate got through e-service centres.
“In the first phase of the scheme, applicants belonging to Backward and Most Backward Class can obtain community certificate within 48-hours. They needed to submit evidence showing that anyone of their family members had already received the same certificate online at the e-service centres,” he said. Later, the facility would be extended to other communities as well.
A service charge of Rs 250 would be collected for giving away the certificate within 48 hours.
Udhayakumar explained that the new scheme for fast distribution of certificates would help the students in a big way.
He informed that as many as 4.22 lakh certificates were given away to students in their respective institutions during 2016-17.The government also decided to include 15 types of services, including certificates for agricultural income, small/medium farmer, inter-caste marriage, widow, unemployed, migration, heir, residence, pawn broker licence and money lenders licence, in the online service list.
