NIT-T students to receive degrees in traditional attire

A total of 1,689 students of National Institute of Technology-Tiruchi will receive their degrees at the 14th convocation on July 28.

All India Council for Technical Education Chairman Anil Dattatraya Sahasrabudhe will be the chief guest.

And in a break from tradition, the students and doctoral scholars will receive their degrees in traditional attire and not gowns, NIT-T Director Mini Shaji Thomas said on Wednesday.

The prestigious President’s Medal for overall highest CGPA will be received by V. Arthi of B.Tech. (Metallurgical and Materials Engineering). Institute medals will be received by 9 B.Tech., 1 B.Arch., 21 M.Tech., 3 MSc., 1 MCA and 1 MBA students.

During the last academic year, 95% of undergraduates and 87% of postgraduates were placed. The student placement record continues to be maintained at higher percentage despite global sluggishness. In all, 225 companies participated in the recruitment process, one of the highest in the country and on par with the older IITs, she added.

NIT-T will also present the Distinguished Alumni Awards for academic, research, managerial contribution, entrepreneurship, public administration, social service and Young Alumnus Achiever Award. The awardees below 40 years of age were chosen from amongst those who had completed 20 years after PG and 25 years after UG from REC Tiruchi.
