Tamil Nadu: Pandemonium on Day V of medical counselling

OC, BC seats fill up by noon; BDS seats in self-financing colleges left.

CHENNAI : The announcement of the selection committee of the Directorate of Medical Education on Thursday that there were no vacancies in OC and BC categories in government medical colleges, self-financing colleges and Raja Muthiah Medical College and also government dental colleges has caused confusion among students and parents waiting outside the venue where counselling for MBBS and BDS courses are being held.

The seats in OC and BC category were filled up and only BDS seats in self-financing colleges were there around noon. The selection committee officials asked the candidates who were not willing to join BDS in self-financing colleges to leave. Over 1,500 candidates were called for the counselling. The candidates and parents who were disappointed after long hours of waiting entered into an argument. Later the officials clarified and asked them to get wait-listed and leave.

CLEAN CHIT TO TN 2ND RANK HOLDER


The selection committee on Thursday called R Raj Chendur Abhishek, second rank candidate in the State rank list, allegedly after the committee heard that the student had applied for medical seat in Andhra Pradesh also. Raj Chendur, native of Dharmapuri in TN, had studied class XI and XII in Andhra Pradesh. “We called him for second verification as we received news that the student has applied in Andhra Pradesh also. But, after verification, it was turned to be false,” said Dr G Selvarajan, secretary, selection committee. Raj Chendur secured 656 marks in NEET and got seat in Madras Medical College.

‘all cmc seats come under managenment quota’
The selection committee officials said that all 100 seats in Christian Medical College, Vellore would be filled under management quota. The college did not surrender any seats to the government. “They will take part in the first phase counselling itself. The first phase of counselling will end on Saturday,” said a senior official of the selection committee.
