CHENNAI: Around 60,000 Class 12 students in the Chennai region, comprising Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Puducherry, Goa, Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Daman and Diu, and 1.7 lakh Class 10 students will take the CBSE board exam from Monday.
Across the country, more than 10.4 lakh Class 12 students and 13.73 lakh Class 10 students will take the exam.
This includes 5.55 lakh Class 12 girls and 4.33 lakh Class 10 girls. There is an increase of 3.37% in the number of candidates taking the Class 10 boards this year compared to the previous year.
The corresponding increase is around 1.01% in Class 12. Class 10 students will take the exams at 3,537 centres across the country, while Class 12 students will write at 3,164 centres. The number of children with disabilities taking the exams has gone down from 3,180 last year to 2,655 this year in Class 10, and from 2,453 last year to 2,066 this year in Class 12.
Class 10 and 12 boards will have value-based questions. "The questions will be based on content and analysed on the basis of the values they reflect," said a release from the board. Sample questions are available on the CBSE website.
Class 12 boards will be held from March 2 to 20, while Class 10 boards will be from March 2 to 26. The school-based exams for Class 10 students will be from March 10.
