NEW DELHI: It wasn't an easy beginning for those writing the CBSE Class XII board exams on Monday. Lengthy and confusing comprehension passages and tricky value-based questions gave students jitters and many could not complete the otherwise average English (core) paper.
Students said the paper was made difficult primarily by questions related to cricket and pilgrimage. "The paper was difficult and the passages lengthy and confusing. I could not complete it as I took a long time to read the passages," Chestha Chanan of Army Public School, Dhaula Kuan, said.
Not just students, even teachers found the paper, which saw significant changes this year, difficult. "This being the first paper, students were anxious," Ramjas School, RK Puram, English HoD, Meera Bhardwaj said. One question on privileges enjoyed by cricketers left many surprised.
Mahua Mallick, an English teacher at Ahlcon International, Mayur Vihar, said, "Students found the passage on 'pilgrimage' difficult. There were questions like 'How can a pilgrim keep his body healthy' and 'How do we satisfy our ego'. Only those who read regularly could answer."
"The rest of the paper was easy and had direct questions," said Nilesh Rastogi, a student from Ahlcon International.
