Circular warns against excessive use of mobile phones
The Madras High Court has issued a circular instructing its staff serving in the principal seat of the High Court in Chennai as well as the Madurai Bench to stop the “irresponsible conduct” of loitering in the corridors or indulging in conversations over mobile phones or with others either in the corridors or in their seats during work hours. The circular issued by Registrar General of the High Court R. Sakthivel in Chennai on Friday, was circulated among the staff in the Madurai Bench by its Registrar (Administration) V. Uma on Wednesday.
The staff members are expected to begin their day’s work on time and continue to work in their seat at the scheduled hours. But it has been noticed that they are loitering or talking on the mobile phone or with others in the corridors or respective seats, which was highly irregular and subversive of discipline.
If they avoid such activities and begin work punctually, they can leave the office on time after finishing day’s work, the circular said asking the Heads of Sections to pay particular attention in this matter and stop forthwith such irresponsible conduct.
Welcoming the instructions issued by the Registrar General, a court official said that it was high time the authorities took serious note of the court staff not being present at their work place during work hours.
“Mobile phones have become a nuisance. Instead of using them to attend to emergency calls, many employees remain hooked on to the gadgets,” he claimed.
Recent order
In April, the High Court Bench here prohibited employees from bringing their “kids, kith and kin” to the court even during holidays. The restriction was imposed on the ground of inconvenience caused to the routine functions of the court and its registry and the staff were warned of stringent action if they violate the prohibition.
