Attention diversion: Two men on bike steals Rs

In a case of distraction for theft, an elderly man was relieved of `70,000 at Mandaveli on Saturday night.Police said, Ranganathan, 65, of Mylapore, had gone shopping. He parked his car near Thiruvengadam Street in Mandaveli.
After purchasing the goods, he left the shopping bag and cash on the rear.
While he was getting into the car, two men on a bike told him that a few currency notes had fallen behind the car. Believing them, Ranganathan went to retrive it.
While he was behind the car, the duo managed to steal the money and escape. Though Ranganathan tried to alert passersby, he couldn't catch the duo on bike.
A case has been registered with the Mylapore police station and further investigations are on.
“We are trying to get the identity from the complainant. We suspect the involvement of habitual offenders,“ said an investigating officer.
