Festival season brings crowds back to T Nagar
Chennai:
TIMES NEWS NETWORK

With the month of Ramadan underway , the atmosphere in T Nagar has undergone a welcome change, with a significant increase in the number of shoppers. A major portion of The Chennai Silks building collapsed on Saturday morning, but people remained unperturbed. Various shops and hawkers opened for businesses after going through a lull for over 15 days. The shopping hub slowly gained momentum on Sunday afternoon, as more people started thronging the streets. South Usman Road, where the fire mishap occurred, was busy, despite being shut down until 3pm on Saturday . Ranganathan Street which was completely deserted a few weeks ago was swarming with people, making it difficult for passersby to even walk in that direction. The traffic diversions have caused congestions on many narrow lanes and are difficult to access. But the shoppers seem to have no qualms about shopping in the area as the demolition site has been secured by the police.
The only complaint came in from the hawkers and small shop owners whose businesses suffered heavily due to the demolition and subsequent collapse of the textile store.
