Cancer institute to start palliative care centre in Sriperumbudur

Cancer Institute (WIA), Adyar, and Singhvi Charitable Trust are starting a new palliative care centre in Sriperumbudur.

The 50-bedded facility , Mahaveer Ashray , will be inaugurated on Thursday .

Palliative care is a branch of medicine linked to easing the pain of patients suffering from terminal diseases. The stream also helps improve the quality of the patient and the family during curative treatment and after.Palliative care facilities also provide emotional support to the family of patients who are often exposed to considerable stress.

Mahaveer Ashray has been constructed on a four-acre property at a cost of `25 crore. The Centre will function as a full-fledged unit of the Cancer Institute, Adyar, and will be staffed with doctors and other workers from the hospital.
