Russian Education Fair to be held in Tirunelveli tomorrow
Will highlight higher education opportunities in the Russian Federation
The Russian Centre of Science and Culture will organise an education fair, highlighting the higher education opportunities in Russia, here on June 15.
An official statement said leading Russian government technical and medical institutions, including MARI State Medical University, Bashkir State Medical University, Far Eastern Federal University, Siberian State Medical University, Volgograd State Medical University, Russian State Medical University, Nation Research Moscow Aviation Institute, Kursk State Medical University, Tver State Medical University, Moscow Physics and Technical and Southern Federal University, are participating in the fair to be open from 10 am to 5 pm. Entry is free.
Candidates furnishing 12th standard mark sheets/degree certificates will be given spot admission for Bachelor’s/Post-graduate degree programs.
This is the nineteenth edition of the fair being organized in the city by the Cultural Department of the Consulate General of the Russian Federation in South India and in association with Study Abroad – the authorized Indian Representative for Russian Universities.
Highly subsidised
The fair is being held to bring awareness on the highly subsidised education programmes Russian institutions are offering to students from outside Russia,” said Mr. Mikhail J. Gorbatov, Vice-Consul and Director, Russian Centre of Science and Culture.
Russian Medical Universities are to offer 500 medical seats with concession in fees of up to 30% to Indian students.
According to the guidelines of Medical Council of India, students joining the undergraduate/post-graduate programs should have a minimum of 50% marks in the relevant core subjects/degrees, which in the case of SC/ST and OBC students, is 40%. Tamil medium students are also eligible to apply.

There are no pre-qualifying exams like CET, IELTS, etc. for admissions to universities in Russia as in some countries.
In Russian Universities, the duration of engineering course is four years and the duration of medical course is six years in English Medium.
There are 63 Government Medical Universities in Russia, which are recognized by Medical Council of India and listed in the Directory of Medical schools of the World Health Organisation (WHO). Russian Medical Universities offer an M.D. degree, which is equivalent to M.B.B.S in India.
Currently, there are more than 10000 Indian students studying at various arts & science, engineering and medical institutions in Russia. Depending upon the University, place of study and course, the fee structure differs from US$ 2500 to US$ 4000 per year in the case of Russian Medium instruction. And in the case of instruction in English Medium, fee shall be US$ 3500 to US$ 6000 per year. The programs begin from the September 1, 2017.
Russian Consulate in South India is to concurrently hold pre-departure orientation programme for candidates selected in the first phase of the All India Russian Education Fair conducted recently, the statement said.
