Imphal, May 03 2017: A dental professional not registered with the Manipur State Dental Registration Tribunal was found nominated to the Dental Council of India (DCI) .

After the matter was taken to Court, the nomination was cancelled but the case has not been disposed by the Court.

Head of Department, Orthodontics, Professor Dr Revathi P of Sibar Institute of Dental Sciences, Andhra Pradesh who is not a local dental professional was fraudulently nominated to the DCI by the State Health Department.

According to DCI's instructions, two, local dental professionals should be nominated as its members for a term of five years, informed a source.

However, an order issued by the Principal Secretary (Health and Family Welfare) on August 6, 2013 paved way for nomination of Sibar Institute of Dental Sciences Vice-Principal Dr B Venkat Ramana Reddy and Dr Revathi P as DCI members of Manipur.

Apart from being non-locals, both Dr B Venkat Ramana Reddy and Dr Revathi P were not registered with the Manipur State Dental Registration Tribunal.

Pointing out their ineligibility, complaints were lodged.

Subsequently, Head of Department, Conservative Dentistry, RIMS Dr T Nabachandra was nominated in place of Dr B Venkat Ramana Reddy along with Dr Revathi P as DCI members by an order issued on November 6, 2013 .

Challenging the nomination of Dr Revathi P, Head of Department, Dentistry, JNIMS Prof M Angouba filed a writ petition at the High Court of Manipur and Advocate Babita Thoudam is appearing on his behalf.

Even as the petition is pending at the Court, an order issued by the Commissioner (Health and Family Welfare) on April 19 this year replaced Dr Revathi P by Prof M Angouba as the second DCI member from the State, added the source.
