100% result eludes Anna varsity colleges

Show in Nov/Dec 2015 semester worst

Anna University released the academic performance profile of its affiliated colleges for April/May 2016 on Tuesday. A comparison of the academic performance of the colleges over the last four semesters showed that no engineering college had posted 100% results.
Among the 10 colleges to have posted a pass percentage of over 90, two are from Virudhunagar: Mepco Schlenk and Ramco. The latter, along with PSG Institute of Technology and Applied Research, Coimbatore, are both new institutions that have not yet sent out a single batch of students.
None of the colleges in Chennai or Kancheepuram, which are in high demand every year among students, has been featured. Only one college – RMD Engineering College, Thiruvallur – is in this category. When compared to the performance in the four semesters – April/May 2016, November/December 2016, April/May 2015 and November/December 2015 – the performance was worst in the November/December 2015 semester.
It may be recalled that there had been several student protests demanding postponement of the semester examination following the floods in December 2015. During that semester, the pass percentage in 62% of the colleges was below 50. While the performance of colleges affiliated to Anna University has turned the focus back on the quality of faculty, experts say it is equally important to work towards greater industry-academia collaboration. They add that while colleges in the cities and towns benefit more from skill and personality development programmes, those in rural areas need assistance in placement programmes.
