The uncertainty over the NEET results forced many students from Trichy to throng the Russian educational fair held here on Tuesday . More than 300 medical aspirants enrolled their names at the fair.Six Russian educational institutions of higher learning participated in the fair, seeking to promote medical and aerospace engineering studies. These included Volgograd State Medical University, Volgograd, Kazan Stat Medical University , Kazan, Siberian State Medical Universi ty, Tomsk, Mari State University, Far Eastern Federal University , Vladivostak and Moscow Aviation Institute, Moscow.
V Sharniha, who scored 1147 marks (95.58% ) in the board examination, said that though she had written NEET, she was apprehensive about the result as it was based on the CBSE syllabus.“Studying medicine is my ultimate aim. But I don't know if it will be fulfilled here. So, to be on the safer side, I visited the fair to inquire about the details,“ she said.
Echoing similar sentiments, another student added, “The reason for the popularity behind Russian medical education is that majority of students who qualified from Russia found it easy to pass the qualifying examination conducted by Indian Medical Council.“
Speaking to TOI, C Suresh Babu, director of study Abroad Educational Consultants said, “Education cost is relatively low in Russia compared to that in India. A student has to spend at least `1.45 crore to study medicine at a private college here. However, it is enough to spend `15 lakh to `22 lakh for a period of six years in Russia as both healthcare and quality education are provided by the government.“ The relationship between both the countries with regard to educational cooperation has been ongoing since 1950, he added.
As the issue of NEET is shrouded in uncertainty , parents are worried if they can get a medical seat for their wards. “Most of the them preferred to be on safer side,“ said Babu.
