KANPUR: A marriage was called off when a bride gave birth to a child soon after she landed up at her in-laws house in Kanpur Dehat district.
The incident unfolded on Tuesday in the Sabdalpur village under the limits of Derapur police station of the district, 50 km from the Industrial City. The bride, Meena (name changed), went into labour pain soon after she reached her in-laws house. "Before, the bride could reach the hospital, she delivered a baby right at the wedding-room being decorated for the 'first-night'," informed villagers.
Embarrassed by the sudden turn of events, the woman's family, which hails from Nasarseda of the district, was summoned by the bridegroom, who later walk-off the marriage.
A 'panchayat' was called which later asked the girls parents to return the gifts exchanged during 'Tilak' ceremony. "They later took home not only their daughter, but also the newborn baby," informed village sources. The couple had got married on Monday.
