51 expresses to be faster from Nov 1

Chennai: Your train journey to places like Madurai among others has just got faster. A total of 51 express and 36 passenger trains running in Southern Railway's jurisdiction will be speeded up from November 1 when the new timetable comes into effect.

These include 30 express trains within Southern Railway that has administrative control over Tamil Nadu and Kerala and 21 expresses that are inter-railway. A copy of the timetable was leaked on instant messaging platforms and senior railway officials confirmed it was the final copy.

There will be a 75-minute reduction for Puduchery-Mangalore Weekly Express, while the Chennai Egmore-Mangalore will be faster by 60 minutes.

There will be a 50-minute reduction for Rameswaram Express, while the Chennai-Sengottai Silambu Express will arrive at the destination 50 minutes earlier. The Mangalore-Chennai Express will save 40 minutes, while Chennai Egmore-Madurai Pandian Express will be 35 minutes faster (30 minutes in the reverse direction).

Cholan Express will be faster by 20 minutes, while Rockfort Express from Chennai will be faster by 15 minutes. Kanyakumari Express from Kanyakumari will be faster by 20 minutes. As the section beyond Trichy has been doubled, 19 DEMU trains in the division have been speeded up by five minutes to a maximum of 20 minutes. There will be 100-minute reduction in the running time of the Faizabad-Rameswaram Weekly Express, while the bi-weekly Mangalore-Kacheguda Express will be faster by 235 minutes, almost four hours.

Ananthapuri Express will be extended up to Kollam, while Amirtha Express will be extended to Madurai and Chennai-Palani Express to Palakkad via Pollachi.

Three new EMUs on Chennai suburban network starting November 1. A new train will be run from Chengalpet to Thirumalpur, leaving Chengalpet at 5.15am and leaving Thirumalpur at 9pm.

A new MEMU service will run between Chennai Central and Avadi, at 2.05pm from Central and 2.50pm from Avadi, a MEMU on Chennai Beach-Tiruvallur section will start at 4.40pm from Beach and 6.30pm from Tiruvallur.
