Chennai airport customs officials seize gold worth Rs 63 lakh

CHENNAI: Customs officials at the Chennai airport have seized 2.13kg of gold worth Rs 63 lakh, in the last four days.

On Thursday night, 597gm of gold worth Rs 17.7 lakh was seized from a passenger who arrived here from Colombo. The gold was concealed inside two oil pistons.

On Friday, 548gm of gold worth Rs 16 lakh was seized from a passenger from Dubai who had concealed it in his undergarment.

In the third case on Saturday, 986 gm of gold worth Rs 29 lakh was seized from a passenger who arrived from Riyadh. The gold was in the form of an irregular shaped cube and was concealed in a hair dryer.

Customs officials arrested the passenger from Riyadh. Further investigations were on.
