CHENNAI: Actor Kamal Haasan might face a criminal case for his recent tweet advising his fans not to distribute nilavembu kudineer (a herbal medicine to prevent spread of dengue) in view of a controversy over its efficiency. The Madras high court on Wednesday directed the Chennai city police to register a case against the actor if prima facie offence is made out.
Justice M S Ramesh passed the order on a petition moved by G Devarajan, an advocate clerk.
According to the petitioner, Kamal has tweeted asking his fans to desist from distributing nilavembu claiming that it has side effects. "It is not clear on what basis he has declared that the medicine has side effects. If the actor had consumed nilavembu kudineer and suffered any such adverse side effects, he should have furnished proper details of such effects while making such statement."

He further alleged that the actor was making such statements with political motives against the Tamil Nadu government and to disturb peace in the state.
\The petitioner wanted the court to direct the state government and the Arignar Anna Government Hospital for Indian Medicine to bring out the truth about nilavembu, besides a direction to the police to register a case of cybercrime against the actor and initiate appropriate action.
