New registrar appointed for University of Madras

The University of Madras has a new registrar in R. Srinivasan, an associate professor in the Department of Econometrics.
Mr. Srinivasan succeeds David P. Jawahar, whose tenure ended on March 6.
Mr. Jawahar’s tenure was stormy, with the university facing a severe financial crisis.
Accusations of corruption were also levelled against him by a group of academics.
Mr. Srinivasan was selected from among 22 applicants to the post.
Eligible candidate
Sources said that Mr. Srinivasan was the only person found eligible from among the applicants. Mr. Srinivasan, who assumed charge on Thursday, will hold the position for three years.
Higher Education Department sources said none of the 15 candidates for the post of Controller of Examination was found suitable.
