DVAC books case against Corporation official

Money and gold coins seized from the office of Assistant Commissioner (Accounts)



The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti Corruption (DVAC) has registered a case against Assistant Commissioner (Accounts) of Tiruchi City Corporation following seizure of unaccounted money and gold coins from his office here on Monday.
The investigating agency has also booked a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act against four other staff serving in the office of the Assistant Commissioner (Accounts).
The action against Assistant Commissioner Prabhu Kumar Joseph followed a surprise check conducted by a DVAC team along with District Inspection Cell in his office here on Monday evening. The checks which lasted over six hours was carried out based on information that bribe was allegedly being demanded and obtained for disbursement of cheques to contractors for having carried out various works.
During the course of the checks, the DVAC team seized Rs. 1.36 lakh unaccounted cash and 32 gold coins totally weighing 42 grams from the Assistant Commissioner’s office situated within the Tiruchi Corporation main office.
DVAC sources said the case booked against Assistant Commissioner Prabhu Kumar Joseph and the other four staff was under section 102 of the Criminal Procedure Code and under sections 13 (ii) read with 13 (i) (d) of the Prevention of Corruption Act. The sources, however, said no arrest was made.
