To create awareness of its role and contribution to social and economic development, India Post celebrates National Postal Week from October 9.
As part of this week-long celebration, a mobile post office covering various parts of southern suburbs was launched at St. Thomas Mount HPO on Tuesday.
Flagging off the vehicle, Chief Post Master General (CPMG), Tamil Nadu Circle, M. Sampath said these efforts would take the postal services more closer to people living in uncovered and new settlement areas.
The vehicle would cover Ezhil Nagar (1-2 p.m.), Semmanchery (2.30-3.30 p.m.), Infosys-OMR (3.45-4.30 p.m.), Race Course Road-Guindy (5- 6 p.m.) and Independence Day Park-Nanganallur (6.30-7.30 p.m.).
“We are scrutinising the demand for such a facility at other places in the city and depending on the need the mobile post office would cover more places in the mornings too,” said Mr. Sampath.
Customers can avail the postal services including sale of stamps and stationery, registered post, speed post, electronic money order, except savings bank and postal life insurance.
This apart, the mobile post office will also offer ‘On the Spot’-My Stamp printing facility.
