Anna University publishes rank list of non-autonomous colleges affiliated to it

COIMBATORE: With almost a month left for the single-window engineering counselling to begin, Anna University on Tuesday morning released the rank list of non-autonomous colleges affiliated to it.

The Madras high court had directed the university two weeks ago to publish the rank list of colleges within 15 days.

The Anna University-Chennai, has published the rank list of colleges based on the academic performance for the semester exam conducted in April-May 2014 (even semester), and for that conducted in November-December 2014 (odd semester). While 528 colleges have been ranked in the April-May 2014 semester exam, 523 colleges figured on the list of November-December 2014 examination.

In the April-May 2014 examination, the National Engineering College in Tuticorin topped the list with 96.95% of its students passing the exam. In the November-December semester examination, the Coimbatore-based PSG Institute of Technology and Applied Research topped the list with a pass percentage of 98.33%. This college was started in the academic year 2014-15, and in its first semester itself it bagged the top position in academic performance.

The rank list is released to help engineering aspirants choose the colleges and courses before they appear for the single-window counselling for admission. The counselling is likely to begin on July 1 this year.

While there are 538 engineering colleges affiliated to Anna University-Chennai, according to a Supreme Court order only non-autonomous colleges would figure on the rank list. Autonomous colleges follow their own pattern of examination and thus is considered unfair to rate them with those who follow the university's examination system.
