CHENNAI: More than 100 residents in north Chennai staged a protest in front of a clinic on Saturday, after a 17-year-old girl who had taken a pill given by the doctor in the clinic resulted in her condition worsening, requiring admission in a general hospital for about a month.

The patient developed severe skin allergy due to the medicine, alleged her kin.
Pills Scar Girl.jpgSpeaking to reporters, S Amudha, a resident of Rajaji Nagar at Thiruvottriyur, said her daughter S Kamali was taken to the clinic on April 28 after she suffered from fever and throat pain.

The lady doctor there prescribed her some pills.

“The very next morning, after taking them she developed severe allergy with her skin all over looking burned. She was rushed to the Government Stanley Hospital, from where she was referred to Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital,” she added.

The girl’s father R Subramanian added that so serious was his daughter’s condition that she had to be admitted to the ICU for a week before being shifted to a ward.

In all, she was admitted for more than 20 days and was discharged only two days ago.

“We were not in a state to highlight this issue then. Since our daughter was discharged from the hospital, we are staging a protest to express our anger,” he added.

Meanwhile, the doctor lodged a complaint against the family in the Sathangadu police station.
