Free internet at Agra, Mathura bus stops from June

Agra: Waiting for a bus to arrive will no longer be boring as Roadways is equipping several bus terminals in Agra and Mathura with free Wi-Fi connectivity.

The service, which is likely to start from mid-June, is a part of the ongoing process of revamping bus stops in Uttar Pradesh. Agra and Mathura will be the first cities in the state to have such a facility.

The service is going to be provided by a private concessionaire at ISBT Agra, Idgah bus depot and Mathura's Bhuteshwar bus station

Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC), the government body responsible for the upgradation, is aiming to make world-class bus terminals in 25 districts of the state by 2016, as plans have been set in motion to replicate the work done in Gujarat.

Speaking with TOI, Ravinder Singh, service manager of Agra roadways department, confirmed the development: "Bus terminals at Agra and Mathura will be the first districts in the state to have free Wi-Fi facility for passengers. They can avail free internet for 15 minutes. For additional usage beyond the given time, one has to top-up for the data pack, which can be purchased from the terminal itself."

Explaining the process of using the Wi-Fi, Singh said: "One just needs to switch on their phone's Wi-Fi option and the password will be sent to your device for pairing. Once paired, you can use the facility."

Free Wi-Fi facility is not unprecedented as the recently-launched Swedish-made luxury Scania buses that ply between Agra and Lucknow provides free internet on its journey.

Besides, free internet connection is available at the Agra Cantonment Station for the first 30 minutes.

Wi-Fi is a popular networking technology which uses radio waves to provide wireless high-speed internet and network connections.
