Jayalalithaa case verdict: Less traffic on Chennai roads

CHENNAI: While Monday mornings are synonymous with traffic snarls in Chennai, today appeared to be an exception. With former Tamil Nadu chief minister J jayalalithaa's verdict is expected to be delivered after 11am, even arterial roads wore comparatively an empty look.

"Unlike on any other Monday morning, there was no traffic on Anna Salai. Never thought this could happen," said K Sudhakar, resident of Alwarpet.

There was no traffic snarls on the Poonamallee High Road and the OMR.

"Our entire force is on the roads today to ensure there is no road blocks after the verdict is out. But for now, there traffic is very smooth," said a police officer.

Representatives from National Association of Software and Services Companies (NASSCOM) said they would take a decision at around 2pm on holding the evening shift at IT companies.

"We are monitoring the situation. Once the verdict is out, we will decide if work can happen during the evening shift," said senior director at NASSCOM Purushothaman K.
