Private medical colleges searched

Search team seized documents relating to admission

Sleuths from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) conducted searches in deemed universities and private medical colleges regarding certain alleged irregularities in admission of students.
The team searched the premises of the institutes and seized certain documents relating to admission and collected details of students who were admitted.
However, it is not clear whether the CBI search is related to alleged irregularities in the admission process for this year or the previous year.
The Medical Council of India (MCI) had directed the territorial administration to discharge around 770 MBBS students who were not admitted through the Centralised Admission Committee (Centac) in deemed universities and in the self-financing private medical colleges for the academic year 2016-17.
The Madras High Court stayed the directive of the MCI on writ petitions filed by a batch of 91 affected students.
