CHENNAI: The
City Police filed chargesheet in the sensational Swathi murder case
about a week ago, naming as the sole accused, Ram Kumar, who died under
custody in the Puzhal prison.
Reliable
sources in the city police told Express that Assistant Commissioner
(Nungambakkam) Devaraj filed the chargesheet in the 13th Metropolitan
Magistrate court. The chargesheet is yet to be ‘numbered’ in the court.
“No
other person was named in the chargesheet,” said a court source.
Confession statements, reportedly given by Ram Kumar when in custody,
and the photos of Swathi taken from his phone, were among evidence
attached.
Swathi, working with IT
major Infosys, was hacked to death on June 24 morning at the
Nungambakkam railway station. The incident created shock waves across
the country. Amidst much public pressure, police arrested Ram Kumar, a
youth from southern Tirunelveli. On September 18, Ram Kumar, according
to police, committed suicide by biting a live wire in the Puzhal
Prisons.
