‘Centre has not responded to the UT’s plea for exemption’
Directorate of Health and Family Welfare Services, Government of Puducherry, has asked the students to apply for NEET for MBBS and BDS courses for 2016-17 before March 1.
In a press release, the Directorate said: “The students in the Union Territory of Puducherry are informed to apply for the NEET within the prescribed time and date as a matter of abundant caution.” The Centre has modified rules governing the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) for admissions to MBBS and BDS courses for 2016-17.
“As the modified rules will affect students of Puducherry Union Territory, in the budget session, a resolution was passed by the government to give exemption to the Union Territory for five years and the same resolution was unanimously agreed by the Members of Legislative Assembly.”
The resolution passed in the Legislative Assembly was sent to Government of India for its. approval.
Last week, the Chief Minister and ministers visited New Delhi and raised the issue with the Centre. But there had not been any response from the Centre, the release added.
PG admissions
The Directorate has said that the Puducherry Government was in the process of filling 50% of PG medical/dental seats available in private medical colleges/Deemed Universities and seats reserved for State quota. A common counselling will be held for filling the remaining 50% of PG medical/dental seats available in private medical colleges/Deemed Universities under management quota.
In this regard, the department has requested all students in Puducherry who have qualified in PG NEET and who want to study in medical colleges in the region to register with the office of the CENTAC for PG Admission, Pondicherry Engineering College (Campus), Puducherry, in the prescribed proforma given on the website www.igmcri.com on or before March 6.
